I would fucking kill to go to this show.Not only cause Mindset are an outrageously amazing band but because its a matinee show.Pretty much every band from the first,second,ah fuck it, all waves of youth crew played a matinee show.
Whether it was CG's,The Anthrax or the Paladium.It was quintessentially straight edge and a typically connected with youth crew.

I know i sound like a fucking hack writing so fondly of days i didn't get to experience or have anything to do with but fuck it let me dream.

Thats what i wrote in an old First Death song.Its been well over 6 months.That constitutes as old.
As some of you may know my ipod plays alphabetically thanks to a fucked screen.I was walking home in the smaller hours of saturday morning an the Ausgang City songs came on.Admittedly i had'nt heard these since we got the cds back,all twenty million of them.It was strange to say the least.I actually really enjoyed the music.I love the style of hardcore we played.I was kind of happy until the vocals came in.Man i fucking hate myself for committing them to recording.I really do.I ruined some perfectly good tracks back then and i can never be content knowing how fucking horrible i sound.Well thats when you can make out what im saying.Some mistakes you never stop paying for eh?

This reminicising started a fucking flood of things that i wish weren't the way things are:
I really miss First Death.I miss the practices and hanging out twith some good dudes.Gav especially.I never get to see that cocksucker anymore.Going back to his house after late practices was the fucking best.Playing Mega Drive roms on his computer till fucking 3 or 4 to get up in four hours to go to work.Some of the best times right there.
I miss going on tour.The two weeks we did in England was possibly the highlight of my life.I was so fucking pumped to play with those dudes(or dicks.I was all dependent on who fucked me off during the day) every night.

Other things get to me too but ill save them for another entry maybe.
For now ill just remember fondly FD and the good things associated with what was involved with it/us.
Forgetting about the recordings :)

I haven't posted something on here in fucking ages.And im pretty sure when i did it was some random shit that had no relevance to anything.

It was my friend Ciara's party type deal there on saturday.I had an awesome time and there were some amaaaaazing cupcakes made by the master chef that is Glauce.They looked like this:

I ate so many it wasn't funny.They were really good.She has a bloghere so add it and drool over your keyboard mmmmmmmmmm

About this time last week i was getting ready yo finally see Bane play in Dublin.They were one of the first hardcore bands i really got into.I missed them in London on the tour they did with Comeback Kid in 2005 and have really wanted to see them ever since.Especially cause they pretty much said they were going to break up,in no uncertain words, last year.I believe they are a band that embodies the true nature of hardcore.They have been together for nearly 15 years.That is rare as fuck in this scene and they still never compromised themselves or their integrity.I have nothing but respect for these guys and after talking to Aaron at the show nothing has changed.He was enthusiastic about the show which is awesome as it was the last day of tour.He watched the bands that played before too which is more than can be said for a lot of members of other touring bands.
Anyway i digress.The show was FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!

This last one was during the last part of Swan Song that lasted for ages.I also got to circle pit in a very confined space which is probably my favourite thing to do.
Seriously one of the best shows i have ever been to.Bane FTW.
Also i would like to mention Dave is one of the best people to have up front with you singing along.He also supported my finger clicking.You the man Dave :)

Aside from Bane i have been listening to an old Belfast band called Circle Again a lot recently.I have been looking for a copy of this demo for a while now and thanks to some awesomely informed dudes i got in contact with someone who was putting out a second tape....press?I strongly recommend you give these a listen.You can get the demo from DIY Irish HardcorePunk Archive.Add that too cause people need to see where they scene they are involved with now came from.

UPS.A bastion of commercial logistics.Synchronising the world of commerce or so they would lead us to believe.I always thought UPS dudes were pretty cool in as cool as you'd think a delivery company could be.Their vans were awesome and their uniforms had shorts.Whats better than that?Not much let me tell you.
Anyway i was taking a delivery in work from this UPS guy who i think i've dealt with twice.He's about fifty or so.Late forties for def anyway.I'm shooting general shit asking him about parking spaces(thats what us stock room guys do).He says hes parked up by Brown Thomas and its best to walk to where he got to deliver stuff to.Then he deadpan adds in "i get to look at all the pussy too."

How can someone say something like that to someone they've had in total about three minutes time conversing in about four months?I said "yeah man" and shut the door.
Two seconds past and i literally(not literally)shit my pants laughing.I was on my own so i had top go tell the guy who i work with.The fact he was in the middle of the floor surrouned by people eating lunch couldn't stop me recounting whta just occured quite loudly.Well its the loudest i've said pussy in front of the customers in quite a while.

The band received lots of criticism due to their militant Straight Edge lyrics, especially from fanzines like San Francisco's Maximum Rock'N'Roll. The militant lyrics were a conscious move on the band's part, as they were sick of seeing bands like Youth Of Today, who in reality had a very positive message, get slagged for being too militant. So they decided to give the nay-sayers exactly what they wanted - the most militant Straight Edge band imaginable. Mike Ferraro has later on admitted that provocation was an important aim for the band."
And what name could possibly provoke people into people having issues with them Judge?None.

I will be the first to admit that when i first heard Judge i was'nt into it.I don't know what it was that i didn't like or get.Thankfully i came to my senses and realised how amazing a band they actually were.

I know what you're thinking.That Judge are a band that people say they like so they seem down with whatever hardcore bullshit is the flavour of the week or something but I for one genuinely see them as one of the most important bands in hardcore
(feel free to disagree with me).The had an urgency and a drive that modern hardcore is missing.As a result watered down emotionless crap like Death Before Dishonor(NOT the band that became Supertouch) and shit like that.You know the bands.Brainless mosh riffs that make you feel stupider for having listened to it.Any way,i digress.
Their drive was to take peoples idea of "militance" in the hardcore/straight edge scene and ram it down their throats.Give them a real reason to slag and confront their ideas.The name said it all.

The first recording they did It was just Mike(drums and vocals) and Porcell(guitar and bass).When it came to do the vocals Mike stepped up having only played drums.The first song they recorded was 'Fed Up'.

That song brought their message across quite clear.

They filled out the band which among others included Lars Weiss(Alone In A Crowd) and Ryan Hoffman(Chain Of Strength).After some quality releases they attarcted the attention of aryan groups who latched in to the violent messages in the songs.Particular in songs like 'The Storm'

More and more white power groups and individuals saw just the message of hate in the songs they were putting out.Also taken up the wrong way was the x'd up construction gloves with "hard edge" written on the knuckles.Violence was occuring more regularly at the shows.This is not what they wanted and in the end they had to call an end to Judge.Although marred by violence and associated with nazist ideals in the latter portion of their existence as band.I would hope they would be remembered and recognised as an important band in the NYHC scene.
Porcell was playing in Youth Of Today so stayed in the hardcore scene(and is still going strong) Mike Judge pretty much became a recluse disassociating himself from the scene.He went on to record the 'Mike Judge & Old Smoke' album that was put out by Revelation.A radical departure from Judge.

There was absolutely no need for me to regurgitate Wikipedia on the subject but i feel this band should be listened to more.I feel that passionate about them.

On lunch today i trundled down to the CIE building to cash in my maaany bus refund tickets.Being on O'Connell street is always a drag cause it is just full of fucking scum.Apart from the usual pyjamas/legging wearing motherfuckers i noticed way more junkies out on the prowl for caramello bars and crack tubes.It was like Dawn Of tHe Dead or something with scores of ashen faced(oh yeah) ghouls walking around.I lost count at around thirty between the corner of O'Connell and Henry and the bottom of Grafton street.On the funny side i saw four junkies crammed into a phonebox smoking shit off foil.As tempted as i was to open the door and demand to make a phonecall i realized being outnumbered four to one is never favourable even if they are junkies.Plus it was only for my entertainment and i get enough of that kicking the bottom feeders out of the laneway in work and there were a load of them today.
There must have been a big shipment.This city definitely needs a firestorm.

My ipod fucked up AGAIN so i had to start listening to stuff alphabetically again.I only got through the C section today.I listened to all the Ceremony multiple times.That makes me crust for real.I actually am amazed by that band every time i hear them.Its just honest,hard music with amazing vocals.Im so grateful to have seen them play live twice.One of those times being in the worlds smallest venue was probably the best show i've been to in Dublin.Maybe Blacklisted is an exception.

I miss being in a band.I miss being able to go after work and play a show at some shithole bar.The prospect of Panic Attack is so exciting to me right now.There's the music for three songs done and they are sounding sick.It is one of the few things that i am focused on right now.I want to do other peoples work justice and sing the songs as best as i can,Also we get to play the sickest covers which,lets face it, is what the most important thing is.The possibilities are endless.

Ive been listening to faaaar more youth crew than usually recently.The Atari(see previous entry if you dont know them.Pro band) discography is getting a serious workout.Stuff like Insted,YOT,Bold(hence the title),Token Entry and Hard Stance have just been sounding so much better recently.Im not sure why cause i seem to be in a total pisser recently.

Am i selfish?
i can't answer this for myself anymore and its frustrating as hell.

I ask cause i had a very contempelative walk home tonight.I appreciate what i have and i know im in absolute no position to complain but fuck it i want perfection and i know i will never have it.I was walking by cows lane off Dame street and,as always,i look in the kitchen fitting store imagining what the display would look like in my house.It has an island with a huge extractor over it.This may sound strange but for as long as i can recall i wanted a house of my own.Its an all consuming obsession.

As i said i was having a very contemplative walk home.My ipod is fucked with a broken screen and it was playing songs on random but in groups of albums.Its wierd and is not a setting that was not on it when it was working.I really wanted to listen to Haymaker or Outburst(or some other band that will make you think im cool and dig hardcore) but then this came on.Its the opening theme from my favourite anime.It always sends me off on wierd trains of thought.

I took a detour up along one of my favourite roads to have a look at the houses.Its not that they are particularly fancy but some of them look like Austrian homes that you'd see in mountain towns.Amazing three storied houses that have open planned spaces and awesome chrstmas trees.This again got me thinkingof the hose i will probably never own.Lots of bother stuff flooded back like stupid mistakes i made that either one way or another would lead to me not walking back to a cold Dublin house.Whether it be actually making something of my life and going to college and having some fucking drive.I want to do architecture in college so bad but i wonderif ill be able to commit to something lke thay.Im a flakey motherfucker with a lazy,selfish outlok on life.I want to have designed my house.To have open floor plan and art i like on the walls.To have the phrenology bust on my window sill like the houses i see when walking home.Will i ever get to Japan?These are all dreams i've shit on in the name of taking the easy way out.If this was'nt Eddies laptop id be smashing the keyboard out of frustration.

So Ceremony played two nights ago.How fucking amazing were they?I really want for this to be happening again.
They have such intensity that really comes across.Ross is an amazing frontman and sounds as clear live as he does on record.Their simplicity is just perfect.I fucking love this band.Seeing them at Sound&Fury was only a warm up to this show.
Fuck that venue though.Paying for water?FUCK OFF!
Aside from the shit this show was fucking awesome.Never Healed were pretty good also.I was'nt too sure about them on record but they really blew me away.

I was pissing about work on friday as i usually do,i don't "do" work on fridays, when someone said something about a dog in the store.Result!Dogs rule and thats a fact.I went up to the till and sure enough there was this little jack russell type dog hanging out behind the till.Seeing an opportunity i say ill take care of him for my lunch.I grab a lead that we sell and take him down to the stock room.

This dog,Buddy,is so nice.I can tell he's a bit freaked which is understandable.I would be too if i was that small legging it around town on my own.I give him some water and a bit of sausage roll(he looked hungry).Being the cool dude i am i bring him for a walk up to Stephen's Green.

I don't know if anyone has walked around town with a a dog but people are nicer to you when you're walking around with A CUTE PUPPY!!!!!!

We got up to the park and let him spend some time on some faeces he found and we went for a jog around the park.It was so fucking amazing.I've always wanted a dog fo as long as i can remember so this was a dream come through for me.We got back to work and the guy from the DSPCA was there to collect him.Ihave never been so upset in my whole fucking life.I nearly fucking cried too many times saying bye to him.It was so sad seeing him go.A customer was so taken with him that she offered to adopt if no owner was found.That made me feel better but i still wanted to take him home.Fucking circumstance preventing that are fucked.

He is being held in a shelter for five days then he will go up for adoption.

Being out on a sunday and not driving can be potentially,fatally cold.
Arriving at the Whitehall at about five past eleven to get the bus coming from town.I had my board so was able to practice kickflips,at which i failed.I look at my watch and its twenty past bus should be here soon.NO!piece of shit bus never came.I stayed till ten to twelve just in case there was another bus.Again NO!
Thank you to Laura,Jack and Fry in Classnevin who took me in.Fuck that bus!
After a nice skate up the road i was in warmsville....ish.Their heating is fucked but the fire was rad and we watched Cape Fear.Result.

So i got fucked with that bus situation cause First Death were practicing after what seems like a fucking year.I thought it might suck but it was actually pretty good.We got a new song done already and starting a second one.After scrapping our old set were starting over.Maybe we'll release that 7" after all.Maybe.

So im learning Japanese.Its awesome.Im only in my third week of it but its pretty good fun.Its a basic class but at the end of the 14 week course i should be able to take the 4th grade of the proficiency exam.good times.Ive always wanted to learn it and have absoloutely always had an interest with Japan and its culture for as long as i can remember.I decided to do this class cause i might/most likely will be going next year(get planning fucker).Im super super stoked on it.

This weekend was class.Classnevin was overrun with Simon,Fingers,Holly and Lars and the dozen or so people tattoo'd.everyone was awesome.I dont know how many movies we watched or tattoo's i saw being done.

instead of going to some stupid jerk beach that was miiiiiiiiiiles away we headed out to Bull Wall around 11.The moon was mega bright and we had all the buzz on the beach

Sleeping at 6 in the morning on the kitchen floor has never been so good.

This band!this band have really Really been getting a lot of plays with me lately.The intensity and pure power they had was unreal.Ray Cappo you are my hero.I cant even begin to list the amount of bands who just ripped of his style/mannerisms.i count myself in that number also, has to be done like.Break Down The Walls is just phenomenal.Anyone who hasnt listened to them before.....WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING IN HARDCORE???
I Have been listening to an inordinate amount of older hardcore recently.Much more in comparison to modern stuff.I dont want to come across as preachy or snooty but you really have to listen to where the newer bands came from.No YOT= no DTN.Simple as.
If you do take my advice and listen to these guys spend that extra minute or two and get some Slapshot.they were keeping hardcore evil since before you were born.

Good times lately have included a bit of a break in the First Death camp.I think we thought we were breaking up there for a while but not the case.We're having a bit of a break to get our shit together and hopefully not write songs we'll play for a week and then totally hate.That happens more than id like to admit.We're fussy bastards with real short attention spans.Maybe we'll come out with some good songs.who knows.
Now we gotta go play a show.Galway is calling.

The last ADIH show left me more than a little pissed.On one count cause it was the last time id get to play those songs with those guys which im really glad i got to experience.Some crucial individuals there.The other reason i was pissed has to do with the show itself.

This may make me sound like a bit of a dick but why dont people go off for regular shows?

I know there are people up front singing at a lot of shows for local bands but never to the same degree for say Barntowns(RIP) last show.

Question:Why the fuck not?

I dont want to come across as a complete tool(more than usual) or some sort of authority on hardcore(im far from that) but i want people going apeshit when local hardcore bands play.

I know theres not many of them but if people are that into the music they should be up front spitting the words back at whoever is singing them,jumping off shit and fuck knows what else.

Im not saying go to gigs of bands you hate and feign interest just be honest.If you like a band show some fucking interest.This scene is only as good as the people who are into it.

That was more of a preachy rant than i intended but it has been on my mind a good bit.I guess its being at an event like Sound & Fury and seeing amazing crowd participation,Minus the idiots of course and there were a fair few of them at it,it really made the show.Going to this made me feel better after the last show bullshit.I felt i owed it to myself.

Having never been to the states before i was stoked.Flying over was grand thanks to awesome Robot Chicken on Lauras laptop and watching Cloverfield three times.

LA was pretty cool.I nearly saw David Duchovny but burritos took precedent.I thought id see Nick Jett roaming the streets being a scumbag but alas i did not.I didnt even see any Juggalos i was outside like two Hot Topics(Hot Topic is not punk rock).Being a tourist was class.

Santa Barbara ruled lots.Mostly cause of Sound & Fury being three days of awesome.The venue was a bit too big and kinda felt like a wedding post party with the ceiling decorations going on.

I dont know how i let this movie get by me for so long.I know everyone blows Tarantino and says he's the best director or whatever but he nailed it with this movie.

The fight in the House Of Blue Leaves was incredible and was a pretty long scene but he really kept speed up.The use of black and white film so you cant differntiate the blood from what ever was genius.It really was harking back to older movies even the exploitation flicks.When they started fighting in front of the giant blue light box....fuck me.The animation parts alone could be praised as individual features in themselves.

In short this movie fucking rules,swords are crucial some movies can still be good.

Just less than a year,too few shows and not enough ridiculous shirt designs later its done.

I dont think i've ever been this anxious about a show.The last show with Crowd Control really made me realise this is it.i have so many expectations of it.I got crazy notion of Carry On last show style pile ons and stepping on kids heads to grab the mic.I know it totally wont be like that.My own delusions of grandeur/importaance.The fact its an all ages show in Dorans is also putting a bit of a pisser on it for me.thats beside the point though,it should just be a fun 18 minutes im not going to forget.

i feel like i have to do so much in the mean time and up to it like thanking people for all the shit they did for us.Gave us shows,gave us a place to stay,loaned us gear,did fliers,designs or took pictures for us to look at cause we are vain cunts.I suffer with shit memory so if youve ever done any of those things for us thank you.I cant leave out the people who came to shows we played and came again for some stupid reason.
